God’s covenant with creation and hope for a fresh start.
Genesis 8 Scripture (World English Bible - WEB)
God remembered Noah, all the beasts, and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.
The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were closed, and the rain from heaven was restrained.
The waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased.
On the seventeenth day of the seventh month, the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat.
The waters continued to decrease until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible.
At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark that he had made.
And he sent out a raven, which went forth to and fro until the waters were dried up from the earth.
He also sent out a dove from him, to see whether the waters had decreased from the face of the ground.
But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned to him to the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. Then he put out his hand and took her, and brought her into the ark to himself.
He waited yet another seven days, and again he sent out the dove out of the ark.
The dove came to him in the evening, and behold, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth; so Noah knew that the waters had decreased from the earth.
He waited yet another seven days, and sent out the dove; and she did not return to him anymore.
And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry.
In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.
Then God spoke to Noah, saying,
“Go out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons, and your sons’ wives with you.
Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh—birds, livestock, and every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth—that they may swarm on the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.”
So Noah went out, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him.
Every beast, every creeping thing, every bird, and whatever creeps upon the earth, went out by families from the ark.
Then Noah built an altar to Yahweh, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
Yahweh smelled the soothing aroma, and Yahweh said in His heart, “I will not again curse the ground because of man, for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.
While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”
